This landmark achievement underscores Microporous’ dedication to innovation in advanced energy manufacturing and strengthening domestic energy supply chain resilience.
Recognized as a “Selectee” in Round 1 of the grant program in Fall 2023, Microporous successfully navigated a rigorous review and negotiation process to secure “Awardee” status. This distinction propels Microporous forward, empowering the company to enhance the domestic lithium-ion battery market and significantly bolster U.S. energy independence.
Microporous’ Expansion Plans
Microporous will leverage DOE support to bring two new-to-North America production facilities online:
- 2025: Commercial launch of new ultra-thin, coated wet-process polyethylene (PE) lithium-ion battery separator capacity in Piney Flats, TN.
- 2026: High-volume coated PE lithium-ion battery separator production in Danville, VA. Microporous plans to invest $1.35 billion in domestic separator capacity as the anchor tenant in the newly developed Southern Virginia Megasite.
